BlackBerry launched its first Android smartphone last October, the BlackBerry Priv, subtly admitting that Android is the future. Apart from its fanbase, the Priv wowed many people out there, sporting specs like a curved edge screen, a 18MP camera and a few more while maintaining its legacy QWERTY keyboard. BlackBerry has also ensured its users that they are being heard, and has recently launched some updates for the Priv. The updates include the BlackBerry launcher, the keyboard and camera app. While they are available on the Play Store, we’ll brief you on what to expect with the updates from BlackBerry.
Firstly, the camera. BlackBerry has included support for slow motion video, which can be captured at 120fps and played back at 30fps. However, slow motion audio hasn’t been enabled. The slo-mo feature can be accessed through the “Mode” button. Apart from that, the update includes general stability and performance improvements.
BlackBerry has also brought quite a number of updates to the PRIV’s keyboard app. This includes better predictive typing, in which the app can now learn words with numbers. There is also an option for the keyboard to suggest user contact names.
BlackBerry’s launcher now organizes apps differently, allowing you to have a view of Review, Personal and Work apps. Also, app shortcuts can be removed with ease – by flicking them from the home screen. Other than that, improved overlays which give you a better gist of relevant information. Apps that are stored on the SD card will be grayed out when the card is removed, letting you know that those apps can’t be acccessed.
