Apple takes the leap in alleged flexible OLED patent

A new patent approved for Apple has revealed that the Cupertino company is tipped to switch over to a flexible OLED screen by 2018 from its current LCD’s.

Pictures from the patent which was approved last week show Apple’s different designs. Ranging from flat looking displays to curved ones. There is also a triangular design and something ridiculous by today’s standards, a cylinder shaped display.

All these designs are definitely backed by the flexible OLED display with a protective layer on top. Sources suggest that sapphire would be the material for protection. Underneath the display would be a touch sensor, gyroscope and an accelerometer.

It looks like Apple is heading for a big leap in the years to come. It sure seems pretty bizarre considering displays from the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and the LG G Flex 2 but we’ll never know how will technology evolve over the next 2-3 years.

But don’t trust the alleged patent too much as it might be a little too hard to swallow, especially for Apple fanboys. Stay tuned!
