Back in COMPUTEX this year, we have seen Synology showing off its latest NAS storage products and more recently, the company has announced that its latest DSM 6.0 operating system will be arriving next month as a beta. In the Synology 2016 conference held at Singapore, the Taiwanese NAS maker has showed off its first ever networking product the RT1900ac and the DS716+ NAS Server, both products are set to make a difference in the company’s strategy and product roadmap.

The RT1900ac router isn’t just any common high end router you’ll find out there, but instead the router features Synology’s router operating system called SRM 1.0 otherwise known as Synology Router Management. The router sports WiFi 802.11ac connectivity with speeds up to 1900Mbps, four gigabit ethernet ports and a USB 3.0 port for connecting external USB storage devices that automatically turns it into a personal cloud storage. The RT1900ac’s software has many advanced features to ensure safety in any network environment, things such as timed parental control, URL filter and the ability to extend the router’s features through Download Center, it makes it one of the most sophisticated network routers we have ever seen and will benefit both the professional home user and SMEs.

The DS716+ is the company’s latest NAS server that comes with Intel’s most efficient 14nm Braswell quad-core processor featuring an improved power efficiency of up to 40% when compared to its predecessor. Due to its more powerful CPU, the new DS716+ is able to transcode 4K video on the fly without affecting the NAS performance, scalability has also been considered as the DS716+ can be expanded to 7 hard drives by connecting the optional DX513 expansion unit. In terms of transfer speeds and security, users can expect a 160% increase in read/write performance for AES-256 bit encrypted data transfer.

In terms of availability and pricing, the RT1900ac network router is expected to retail at the price range of US$150-US$180 with no specific dates being mentioned, the DS716+ NAS server is targeted to launch around late November to mid December and will be priced similarly to the DS713+, which currently retails at RM1650.
