Yet another games development studio has closed down as Sony confirmed earlier today that it has shuttered Evolution Studios.
Based in the United Kingdom, Evolution Studios was responsible for both MotorStorm as well as Driveclub. While Sony hasn’t said what caused the closure of Evolution Studios themselves, they statement that they’ve released so far indicated that Sony has “reviewed and assessed all current projects and plans for the short and medium term and have decided to make some changes to the European studios structure.”
Evolution Studios’ Driveclub wasn’t exactly the development studio’s smoothless launch. Initially touted to be as a PS4 launch title, the game was delayed for over a launch. When it was released, the game had a myriad of issues, ranging from boring gameplay to broken online features. While Driveclub has been massively improved upon since release, Evolution Studios’ mishandling of Driveclub during its initial stages could be one of the reasons why Sony has decided to shut down the studio.
