Remember how the GTX 970 was advertised as having 4GB of GDDR5 RAM, but it eventually turns out that the card only came with 3.5GB of RAM? Well, the class action lawsuit that was filed against Nvidia for this issue has been completed, and Nvidia has agreed to a preliminary settlement.
Nvidia’s decision to settle the lawsuit means that the company will be paying USD30 to individual buyers of the GTX 970 card. Furthermore, Nvidia will also be covering USD1.3 million in lawyer’s fees. Those who are entitled to the USD30 settlement is limited to U.S. residents or entities that purchased a GTX 970 in the U.S. from the defendants, their partners or their authorized retailers prior to August 24, 2016. In other words, unless you bought your GTX 970 from the U.S., you’re probably not going to get the payment.
Graphics card manufacturers such as Asus, EVGA and Gigabyte were also named in the lawsuit, so it appears that they might be required to come out with some form of compensation as well.
