Newly published web error code to inform users if websites has been censored

All of us know about the web error codes that pop up when we couldn’t connect to a website. For example, 404 is used whenever a webpage couldn’t be found. Well now, a new error code has been published to inform users if the website they are trying to access has been blocked intentionally.

The newly published error 451, which is a homage to Fahrenheit 451, lets website hosts and network providers warn you when access to the site is obstructed by “legal obstacles”. This error code means that you can now easily identify a website that has been censored through “official” means rather than the cryptic 403 “forbidden” error.

Of course, countries can opt to block 451 codes altogether, making it so that blocked websites will still throw out the 403. Regardless, this is an interesting addition nonetheless, and one error code that we may see far more often.
