Motorola is creating phone screens that can heal itself

Motorola has shown off the durability of the Moto Z2 Force which was dropped multiple times and the phone screen still looks as good as when it first came out of the box. However, they felt like that was not enough and now they have just been granted a patent for a display that can apparently repair itself to a certain degree.

In the documents listing down the details of the technology, Motorola explained that by using heat, the phone screen can seemingly repair itself and can identify the location of the crack. This is thanks to what the company is calling “shape memory polymer” that is used to make the screen and the reason why the phone can repair itself. It would still need some assistance from the user to apply heat to the affected areas but based on the reports, body heat would be sufficient enough to get the screen back to its original state.

As for now, this is just a filing for the patent and we might not see this feature in future Motorola phones anytime soon, but if it does happen then the headache of fixing the screen or finding a decent screen protector might be a thing of the past.
