Microsoft to acquire SwiftKey

A report by Financial Times suggests that Microsoft will acquiring yet another Android app, SwiftKey.

The widely popular keyboard app has been downloaded over 10 million times since it came to existence on the Android platform, being a stock Android keyboard replacement with the same features but somewhat better, alongside a variety of themes.

SwiftKey isn’t the first Android app to be bought over by Microsoft, having bought apps such as Sunrise Calendar and Wunderlist to add to their collection. The report claims that SwiftKey will be purchased for $250 million, with the co-founders of SwiftKey pocketing approximately $30 million once the transaction is completed.

The future will be pretty uncertain for SwiftKey enthusiasts out there as it is not known what Microsoft’s next step will be for the popular keyboard app. Possibilities are that Microsoft will leave the app as it is like what Microsoft did (or did not do) to Wunderlist, or to the horror of SwiftKey users, shut down the app and make use of its features and technologies to develop something “new”.
