For enthusiasts out there, the next installment to the Intel high-end desktop (HEDT) platform will be released no more than in Q2-2016 (April-June). This was shown in a leaked company roadmap slide which was for its client computing platforms. Broadwell-E will be based on Intel’s 5th generation Core “Broadwell” micro-architecture but it would be sold as Core i7 6800 and i7 6900 series.

These chips will showcase Intel’s first consumer 10-core processor, alongside the 6-core and 8-core processors. The cheapest one, costing most likely around $400-ish, will be likely 6-core, with the mid-tier, costing $600, being 6 core, and with the top of the line $1000 processor being 10-core. The TDP for these processors will continue to be rated at 140W, giving support for existing LGA2011v3 motherboards, which will require a firmware update or manual BIOS flashing. This was done before in the Core i7 Ivy Bridge-E having support for existing LGA2011 motherboards at its time. Also seen on the roadmap is the Core “Kaby Lake” desktop processors which will also make an entry in Q4-2016.
