Virtual Reality is hitting its stride this year and Google does not want to be left out. As such, the company has announced the launch of Daydream, a new platform designed to provide a better VR experience on mobile devices.

Build on top of Android N, Daydream is stated to be a more advanced successor to the Google cardboard. This mobile VR system will come with its own VR headsets and motion controllers, both of which will be available in Fall. The platform itself will be powered by the next wave of Android N devices, all of which will be built to Google’s own standards.

For phones that have the performance for it, Google will be equipping them with Android VR mode into the latest version of its operating system. This mode will come with a series of optimizations that aims to improve app performance. It also doubles as an ecosystem that users will be able to navigate inside virtual reality.

Google has announced that Samsung, HTC, LG, Xiaomi, Huawei, ZTE, ASUS and Alcatel will be making Daydream-ready phones. With these eight companies focused on creating Daydream-ready phones, Google themselves will be developing the new VR headset and controller.
