Facebook unveils M, a new virtual assistant

With Siri for iOS and Cortana for Windows and soon available on Android and iOS devices too, suddenly Facebook unveils M, a virtual personal assistant inside of Messenger. Looks like Facebook also wants a slice of that pie.

Anyway, according to David Marcus, VP of the messaging products department, he mentioned that they are testing this new service codename M (Bond’s superior reincarnated perhaps? A British accent would be great) that can complete tasks and find information on your behalf.

Apparently Marcus insists that M will be different from other virtual personal assistants in the market, as M will be able to complete tasks on your behalf. It can even purchase items, get gifts delivered to your loved ones, book restaurants, travel arrangements, appointments and more. That would be a really smart AI to do all that for you though.

So far, we have seen some screen shared by Marcus, and from what we see, it could be another great thing Facebook is doing although I do have to wonder how much more of our personal information will be shared with this data mining giant.
