If you’d ever wished for a smart wearable that you don’t need to charge, the Matrix PowerWatch 2 is going to offer just that and it is real, because this fitness tracker uses solar-cell and your body heat to stay charged, which the latter charging method is achieved with a thermoelectric generator.

The PowerWatch 2 has a rather complete set of fitness tracking features, there’s a built-in GPS, a heart rate sensor, and tracks a variety of things such as steps, pace, distance, cadence and sleep.

At Matrix’s stand in CES Unveiled, I was shown the prototype of the PowerWatch 2 and my first impressions are good, the watch had a rugged build which can handle serious bump and drops with up to 200m of water resistance. Also, the 45mm case size fits really well on my small-sized Asian hand.

One might wonder what happens if the PowerWatch 2 hasn’t been worn for sometime, one of the engineers told me that it has a power reserve that would last for a year, and if the battery really dies off, they do have an inductive charger that will revive the watch.

The PowerWatch 2 supports both Android/iOS and will be able to sync fitness data with HealthKit and Google Fit, it is available now at Indiegogo for an early bird price at US$199 (RM819), prices will go back up to US$499 (RM2054) after the perks have been claimed.
