Android Wear can work without your smartphone

Although we have seen how Samsung incorporates 3G/LTE support in its smartwatches, now we can finally see Android Wear doing the same thing by offering cellular support for its newer watches. The first compatible smartwatch that supports cellular is the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition, which crams an LTE radio under its screen, working on AT&T and Verizon who are both selling this watch in US this week.

These LTE compatible watches will share the same number as your phone, but since it supports cellular networks, it can work even when your phone is not anywhere near you. As long as both your watch and phone can connect to your mobile carrier, LTE Android Wear smartwatches can send and receive messages, Google-related apps and notifications and some of your favorite apps.

You can also make and take calls on your smartwatch if you don’t mind talking to your wrist. However, you might find this connection feature most useful when running errands or when at the gym and marathons since you won’t have to carry your phone with you at the most inconvenient times.
