Mac users were treated to a very nasty surprise over the weekend as a recent update for the company’s Creative Cloud graphics service has reportedly deleted user data without warning.
This particular bug happens as the user logs in after the problematic update has been applied. When the user signs in, a script activated by Creative Cloud would delete the contents from the first directory in the Mac root directory.
The earliest known report of this particular bug comes from BackBlaze, a data backup service. Due to the fact that BackBlaze user data is stored in a directory called .bzvol, BackBlaze users are heavily affected as their directory frequently appears first alphabetically in the Mac root folder. It is worth noting however that this issue isn’t limited to just BackBlaze as other users have pointed out that their directories have been wiped clean as well.
Following user outcry on Twitter and Facebook, Adobe has since patched the bug.
