Emirates is taking its flagship long-haul experience to the next level as it begins rolling out next-generation Starlink Wi-Fi on its Airbus A380 fleet, marking a major leap in onboard connectivity. The first A380 equipped with the new system has already returned to Dubai following installation and certification in the UK, with more aircraft set to follow throughout 2026.
A Massive Leap in In-Flight Connectivity

The introduction of Starlink represents a significant upgrade from Emirates’ earlier onboard internet systems, which once offered less than 1 Mbps of total bandwidth across the aircraft. With the new setup, connectivity speeds are expected to improve by up to a thousand-fold, delivering what Emirates describes as a “better than at home” experience even at cruising altitude.
Each A380 will be equipped with three Starlink antennas, enabling total bandwidth of over 2 Gbps across the cabin. This allows passengers to stream content, browse, game and work seamlessly on personal devices throughout the flight.
Complimentary High-Speed Wi-Fi for All Passengers

Unlike many airlines that restrict high-speed connectivity to premium cabins, Emirates is making Starlink Wi-Fi available free of charge to all passengers, regardless of travel class. The service is designed for easy access, allowing users to connect quickly without complicated sign-up processes.
Future enhancements are already in the pipeline, including live TV streaming via Starlink, which will initially be available on personal devices before eventually being integrated into seatback entertainment systems.
Engineering a First for the A380
As the world’s largest passenger aircraft, the Airbus A380 presents unique challenges when it comes to connectivity. Emirates’ Starlink implementation has been specifically engineered to accommodate the aircraft’s double-decker layout and high passenger capacity.
Compared to the airline’s Boeing 777 installations, the A380 setup includes additional wireless access points and a third antenna to ensure consistent performance across both decks. This ensures passengers can enjoy stable, high-speed internet regardless of where they are seated.
Accelerated Fleet Rollout Underway
Emirates has already equipped 25 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with Starlink, and the addition of the A380 marks the next phase of its connectivity expansion. Installations will soon begin at Emirates Engineering facilities in Dubai to speed up deployment across the fleet.
To date, more than 650,000 Emirates passengers have experienced Starlink connectivity onboard, highlighting the airline’s early adoption of next-generation inflight internet technology.
Continuing Investment in the Passenger Experience
The Starlink rollout is part of Emirates’ broader strategy to enhance the overall travel experience. The airline has already refurbished 93 aircraft under a major retrofit programme, introducing Premium Economy cabins, upgraded Business Class seats, refreshed First Class suites and improved inflight entertainment systems offering over 6,500 channels.
Beyond hardware upgrades, Emirates is also investing in service excellence. In 2025, the airline launched an $8 million Centre of Hospitality Excellence to train its 25,000 cabin crew, reinforcing its focus on delivering a premium onboard experience.
A Fully Connected Future at 40,000 Feet
With Starlink now making its way onto the A380, Emirates is once again redefining long-haul travel by combining its signature onboard experience with high-speed, always-on connectivity.
For passengers, this means a future where staying connected in the sky is no longer a compromise — but an expectation.
