U Mobile has launched ULTRA Home 5G Pro, its latest wireless home broadband plan that promises speeds of up to 2Gbps without requiring a fibre installation. Priced from RM98 per month, the service combines U Mobile’s ULTRA5G network with 8×8 MIMO 5G-Advanced connectivity, an AI-powered Game Turbo feature and a WiFi 7 5G-A router.
The plan includes 2,000GB of high-speed data per billing cycle and is currently available in Peninsular Malaysia, subject to network coverage. This makes it an interesting alternative for households that want faster home internet but either cannot get fibre or simply prefer the flexibility of a plug-and-play wireless connection.
8×8 MIMO 5G-A Targets Faster Home Broadband
One of the biggest upgrades with ULTRA Home 5G Pro is its use of 8×8 MIMO 5G-Advanced technology. U Mobile says the technology allows the router to receive more data streams simultaneously from its ULTRA5G network compared with conventional 4×4 MIMO configurations.
According to U Mobile, this can deliver performance gains ranging from 20% to 100% depending on conditions, with advertised speeds reaching up to 2Gbps. More importantly for busy households, the additional capacity is designed to help maintain performance when multiple devices are connected and using the network simultaneously.
Actual performance will naturally depend on factors including 5G coverage, signal strength, router placement, network traffic and the devices being used, so the 2Gbps figure should be treated as the service’s maximum advertised speed rather than something every household will see consistently.
Game Turbo Prioritises Gaming Traffic
U Mobile is also targeting gamers with its AI-Powered Game Turbo feature, which automatically identifies supported gaming traffic and prioritises it separately from general internet traffic.
The goal here isn’t necessarily to increase the overall internet speed, but to improve latency and responsiveness when playing supported games, particularly when other people in the household are streaming video, downloading files or using the connection at the same time.
U Mobile currently lists support for a range of mobile, PC and console titles including Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, PUBG Mobile, Call of Duty, Fortnite, Dota 2, League of Legends, Diablo 4 and Overwatch, among others. Game Turbo is included with the plan at no additional monthly charge and works over both WiFi and Ethernet, although U Mobile recommends Ethernet for the best gaming experience.
A WiFi 7 Router Comes Included
The other major part of the package is the included ULTRA Performance WiFi 7 5G-A Router. U Mobile describes it as Malaysia’s first 5G-Advanced WiFi 7 router offered by a telco.
The router works with the network’s 8×8 MIMO 5G-A connectivity while supporting WiFi 7 Multi-Link Operation, or MLO. This allows compatible devices to use multiple WiFi links simultaneously, which can improve throughput and latency while making better use of available wireless spectrum.
U Mobile’s specifications list tri-band WiFi 7 support and connectivity for up to 192 devices, making the router particularly relevant for larger households filled with smartphones, laptops, smart TVs, security cameras and other connected devices. Older WiFi devices can still connect normally, although they obviously won’t receive the full benefits available to WiFi 7 hardware.
2,000GB High-Speed Data Comes With a Catch
Despite being marketed as unlimited home WiFi, there is a fair usage limit worth knowing about. ULTRA Home 5G Pro provides 2,000GB of high-speed data each billing cycle. Once that allowance has been consumed, U Mobile reduces the connection speed to 512Kbps until the next billing cycle.
Customers who need additional high-speed data can purchase a 1,000GB add-on for RM30, which lasts until the next billing cycle.
The service also comes with a contract of either 24 or 36 months depending on the selected package, so it isn’t quite the commitment-free alternative to fibre that some wireless broadband services can be. Early termination charges and outstanding router balances may apply if the service is cancelled during the contract period.

ULTRA Home 5G Pro is priced at RM98 per month before applicable taxes and is currently available in Peninsular Malaysia. The service does not require fibre installation, with customers instead setting up the supplied router and SIM to get connected.
For households with strong U Mobile 5G coverage, the combination of up to 2Gbps speeds, WiFi 7, 8×8 MIMO and gaming traffic optimisation makes ULTRA Home 5G Pro a particularly interesting competitor to conventional fibre broadband. However, potential subscribers should check coverage carefully, while heavy users should also keep the 2,000GB high-speed fair usage limit in mind.
