Apple is reportedly planning a significant upgrade to its Photos app in iOS 27, as the company continues to double down on AI-powered features under its broader Apple Intelligence push. According to a recent report, the upcoming update could introduce three new editing tools designed to make photo enhancements faster, smarter, and far more intuitive, bringing the iPhone closer to the capabilities already seen on competing platforms.
The new tools, said to be integrated directly within the Photos app, are expected to focus on simplifying complex edits into quick, one-tap actions. One of the most notable additions is a feature called Extend, which leverages generative AI to expand an image beyond its original frame. This allows users to “fill in” missing areas with context-aware details, similar to what we’ve seen from Google’s Magic Editor and Samsung’s Galaxy AI tools.
Another feature, Enhance, is designed as an intelligent one-tap solution that automatically improves lighting, colour balance, and overall image quality.
