The Game Developers Conference is currently ongoing till March 22, and one of the announcements made during this conference is the new VR headset — Oculus Rift S.

The Rift S is an upgrade over the original Rift, and you’ll be getting a higher resolution display with improved fresnel lenses and higher pixel density, along with better optics. Complemented by a new feature called Passthrough+, VR users will also be able to see the real world without needing to take off the Rift S.

In addition, the Rift S uses Oculus Insight which removes external sensors; instead, it has five built-in sensors which when combined together, contributes to a higher precision room-scale tracking.

Oculus also collaborated with Lenovo to improve the design of the Rift S, ensuring that there are “increased comfort, better weight distribution, and improved light blocking, as well as a simple, single-cable system for a clutter-free experience.” The Rift S has an ergonomic halo headband with adjustable fit wheel, and its Touch controllers were also redesigned for better hand experience.

If you’re worried that your PC might not be able to handle the Rift S, you can check out Oculus to check the PC requirements. In its blog post, the company also announced that the Rift S will be $399 and will launch in Spring 2019, so you should be expecting its availability very soon.
