Although Google Play is still behind Apple’s iOS App Store, which is slightly more mature, polished and well moderated, figures still matter a lot to tech giants like Google and Apple, with both most companies out there usually bragging about numbers in their annual keynotes and conferences respectively. The Google Play Store has hit yet another milestone, currently surpassing 2 million app titles .

The 1 million mark was achieved nearly three years ago in July 2013. In addition to that, the Google Play Store also boasted a whopping 11.1 million downloads in Q1 this year. The impressive figure sees an increase of 6.7% from Q1 in 2015. The report was made by Sensor Tower, who also stated that social media applications fill the top three spots in the app download chart, all of which are owned by social media giant Facebook. The three apps are WhatsApp, Messenger and Facebook.

If you haven’t heard of Clash of Clans or Clash Royale, chances are that you don’t download games on your Android device. Clash Royale has booked spots in the top 20 of both the Google Play Store and iOS App Store globally. Clash Royale is now the more popular app, being the more recent app launched by Supercell than Clash of Clans which was equally addictive. With the ridiculously rapid growth of apps in app stores, users can now download any type of applications they can possibly think of.
