The Corning Gorilla Glass Victus is Corning’s latest invention to solve a common smartphone problem — a broken display. The newest invention guarantees better drop and scratch performance.
Gorilla Glass Victus: Survive higher drops, withstand scratches better
The Gorilla Glass Victus can withstand drops up to 2m as compared to its predecessor’s limit at 1.6m. It is also twice more scratch-resistant than the Gorilla Glass 6 and 4x better than competitive aluminosilicate glasses.
“Instead of our historic approach of asking our technologists to focus on a single goal – making the glass better for either drop or scratch – we asked them to focus on improving both drop and scratch, and they delivered with Gorilla Glass Victus,” said John Bayne, the Senior VP and GM of Mobile Consumer Electronics.
Samsung first to use Gorilla Glass Victus
Though the company hasn’t revealed the exact launch date, one thing is confirmed — Samsung will be the first smartphone manufacturer to use the Gorilla Glass Victus. This glass is also estimated to have similar economics as the Gorilla Glass 6, so we should be expecting more companies to use the Gorilla Glass Victus without pushing the cost to consumers.
