Insta360 has officially unveiled the Luna Ultra, its flagship gimbal camera co-engineered with Leica, marking the company’s entry into the premium handheld gimbal camera segment. Combining professional imaging, advanced stabilization and AI-powered creative tools in a compact body, the Luna Ultra is designed for content creators, vloggers and mobile filmmakers who want studio-quality results without carrying bulky camera equipment.
Available in Malaysia from 10 June, the Insta360 Luna Ultra starts at RM2,999 and will be offered in Cosmic Black and Stellar White through the Insta360 Store, Shopee, Lazada and selected retailers.
Leica Co-Engineered Dual Camera System
The Luna Ultra is built around a dual-camera system that combines Leica’s optical expertise with Insta360’s imaging technologies.
Its primary camera features a Leica Summicron lens paired with a large 1-inch sensor capable of capturing 8K video and high-resolution still images. Complementing the main camera is a secondary telephoto system equipped with a 1/1.3-inch sensor and an F2.0 aperture, enabling natural background blur across five focal lengths while supporting up to 12x zoom, including 6x lossless zoom.
According to Insta360, the combination allows creators to seamlessly switch between wide-angle storytelling and close-up shots while maintaining professional image quality.
8K Video, Dolby Vision and Professional Colour Workflows
Designed for serious content creation, the Luna Ultra records video at up to 8K resolution at 30fps with Dolby Vision support. It also supports 10-bit I-Log recording, giving creators greater flexibility when colour grading footage during post-production.
The camera delivers up to 14 stops of dynamic range, preserving detail across both bright highlights and deep shadows for more cinematic-looking footage.
Photography capabilities are equally impressive, with support for 37MP UltraPhotos and ultra-high-resolution 200MP Scenic Panorama images.
Low-light performance is enhanced through PureVideo Mode, which reduces image noise while improving brightness and detail for recordings of up to 4K60fps. Driving these advanced imaging capabilities is Insta360’s new Triple AI Chip architecture, which accelerates image processing and overall camera performance.
Compact Design With Industry-First Detachable Touchscreen
Despite its flagship specifications, the Luna Ultra weighs just over 200g, making it as portable as many modern smartphones.
One of its standout innovations is the industry’s first detachable 2-inch OLED touchscreen. The display can be removed from the camera body and used as a wireless remote monitor, offering HD video transmission at distances of up to 20 metres. This allows creators to frame shots more easily, especially when filming themselves or capturing creative angles without additional assistance.
Powering the device is a 1,550mAh battery that delivers up to four hours of usage on a single charge. Fast charging enables the battery to reach 80% capacity in approximately 23 minutes, while built-in storage offers 47GB of usable space with expandable storage support of up to 1TB via microSD.
Expanded Audio and Accessory Ecosystem
For audio recording, the Luna Ultra features a built-in wind guard that helps improve voice clarity during outdoor shoots. It also supports direct connectivity with Insta360 Mic systems in both single and dual-transmitter configurations for more professional audio capture.
To further enhance creative possibilities, Insta360 is introducing a dedicated lineup of accessories, including a POV Head Tracker for hands-free filming, Black Mist filters for cinematic diffusion effects, a Wide-Angle Lens that expands the field of view to 108 degrees, and ND filters for improved exposure control and natural motion blur.
