How big can smartphone batteries go? Well, realme has the answer with the P4 Power 5G, which is essentially the first consumer smartphone that comes fitted with a 10001mAh battery, all thanks to Silicon Carbon battery tech that makes it possible to pack so much energy density into a small cell, but is the realme P4 Power 5G all that powerful with its ability to stay unplugged for days?

Trendy Design and Excellent Aesthetics

The realme P4 Power 5G boasts a trendy design with a unique identity, with the rear top having a semi-transparent circuitry design with little screws and a small ‘DART’ branding, while having a premium texture design on the camera island, not to mention the Flash Orange color I have, it has the ‘powerful’ look that one can easily assume and you might think it is a rather expensive phone.

Of course, the realme P4 Power 5G loses out to the rest for having a plastic build but by all means it really doesn’t feel cheap aesthetically, but most importantly, it matches the robustness of similar class competitors by having IP69, IP68 and IP66 certification, which you can easily treat it with high pressure hot water jets and it will take it with no sweat.

What’s impressive is that despite having such a large battery capacity, the realme P4 Power 5G is a very manageable device with just 9.08mm of thickness and weighing 219g, it is slightly heavier than an iPhone 17 Pro yet you get a larger 6.8-inch FHD+ display with a 144Hz refresh rate, which boasts an impressive 1800 nits of brightness in high brightness mode, making it great for outdoor usage.

Powerful enough for most things

While the ‘power’ moniker does make one assume that phone is also powerful in terms of performance, you aren’t getting a flagship-grade chipset to power your everyday TikTok doom scroll and speedy WhatsApp replies, but the realme P4 Power 5G is definitely no slouch with the Mediatek Dimensity 7400 Ultra processor, which is a pretty decent mid-range chipset that can handle everyday app launch and switches with no sweat all thanks to 12GB of RAM, though its internal storage is limited to just 256GB even if you are willing to pay more.

With realme UI 7 based on Android 16, the realme P4 Power 5G’s user experience is nothing short of impressive compared to the competition, as the Flux Engine keeps the user experience fluid when you navigate around the device, its scheduling algorithm is particularly impressive as it manages system resources intelligently to provide a stable, lag-free experience when running demanding tasks such as gaming and video editing, making this mid-range monster a great companion for your daily tasks.

realme UI 7 also comes with several neat customizations that users will love, such as its interactive wallpapers, customizable widgets and clock face on the lock screen.

If you want AI stuff, the realme P4 Power 5G has several helpful features that actually works, such as AI Writer that can help you draft a message in supported apps, AI Translate that can become your live interpreter when you are travelling, not to mention a comprehensive set of AI Image Editing tools that actually works.

realme is promising up to 3 major Android updates and 4 years of security patches for the realme P4 Power 5G, which is generally sufficient but not the longest in the segment, but definitely not an issue if you intend to upgrade your phone every 3 to 4 years or so.

A modest 50MP Wide + 8MP Ultrawide Camera for most people

The realme P4 Power 5G is truly made for those that value battery life and performance, hence it is natural that this phone isn’t made to be an imaging powerhouse, but if you still fancy some casual photography, this phone will definitely do the job just fine given with sufficient lighting with its 50MP wide camera with a 2-axis OIS, it is supported by an 8MP ultrawide camera for group shots and landscapes.

10001mAh Battery – the real deal or gimmick?

Unless you are really pushing it to the limits or doing some artificial stress tests, the 10001mAh battery of the realme P4 Power 5G is impossible to kill in a single day and even with me using this phone as a 5G hotspot for 24 hours to supply connectivity to four devices, the phone’s battery remained at a solid 45% the next day, it can theoretically go up to 3.5 days of moderate use but in most cases, you are going to have to charge it after the second day, which I think is darn impressive for modern mid-range phone standards.

The realme P4 Power 5G supports 80W SuperVOOC wired charging which gets it charged from 0-50% in 36 minutes, it takes a reasonable 80 minutes to be fully charged, there’s also support for bypass charging if you are playing games that helps prolong the lifespan of the battery.

With such a large capacity, realme certainly has some creative use cases for it as you can reverse charge any gadget you have and still have some juice left, it is technically able to charge an iPhone 17 Pro from 0-50% in 30 minutes, but in reality, you will probably be using it to reverse small gadgets such as wireless earbuds which makes more sense.

For safety and peace of mind, the realme P4 Power 5G’s 10001mAh battery has been certified by TUV Rheinland for the ultimate battery safety and 8-years of battery lifespan, this is definitely a good assurance for those that are worried about fast charging the phone for the long term.

Realme P4 Power 5G – The Ultimate Large Battery Phone?

Most mid-range phones already come with super large silicon carbon batteries that will easily last you for days, while the realme P4 Power 5G’s superb 10001mAh battery does sound a little overkill and gimmicky, it is the only large battery mid-range phone that offers the right balance in features, performance and charging speed.

The realme P4 Power 5G is only available in 12GB RAM+256GB Storage variant in Malaysia and retails for RM1,799, which is a very competitive price point though you don’t get an option for larger storage no thanks to the industry wide memory shortage issue, which I believe realme has make this compromise in order to offer such an attractive device at this time.

The realme P4 Power 5G can be purchased at Shopee, Lazada and TikTok Shop.
