The Gear 360 was a great 360 camera that takes brilliant images, but it is sadly limited to be used with Samsung phones. At the Galaxy S8 launch today, Samsung has unveiled the second generation Gear 360 camera, it will now shoot true 4K 360 videos, while being able to stream live 360 videos at 2K resolution, most importantly it now supports iPhones and probably other Android phone models at a later time, just make sure that your iPhone is running at least iOS 10 and above.

Despite of these rather welcoming changes, the new Gear 360 does have some downgrades from the original one, for instance its dual fisheye camera lenses are now 8.6-megapixel lenses, a step down from the original 15-megapixel, while its battery size has been slightly reduced from 1,350mAh to 1,160mAh. However, if we look at it optimistically, the new Gear 360 is now a more pocketable camera and can stand up pretty well with its flat base, unlike the current one which is as huge as a golf ball and uses a three legged stand as its base.

No pricing has been announced yet for the new Gear 360, however lets hope Samsung keeps the price friendly and drops the price of the current Gear 360 once it becomes available.
