In the midst of its Galaxy Note 7 woes, Samsung has nowhere to look but only forward, and with that, the company has quietly released a new Galaxy Tab A (2016) with an S Pen. While it actually isn’t as new, the addition of the S Pen makes the 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab A a somewhat new device by Samsung.

A Galaxy Tab A (2016) was launched earlier this year, only without the S Pen, so do take this “new” tablet as a refresher’s course, since there’s almost no difference at all compared to the “old” one. First off, the Galaxy Tab A sports a 10.1-inch display with a 16:9 aspect ratio and a 1920×1200 resolution. Underneath the hood is Samsung’s homegrown octa-core Exynos 7870 chip clocked at 1.6GHz, coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, expandable up to 256GB via the provided micro SD slot.

The tablet features an 8MP rear camera if you intend to take photos when you happen to be in a pinch, alongside a 2MP front facing camera, sufficient for video calling purposes. Powering the whole package is a 7,300mAh battery, which Samsung claims to provide up to 14 hours of internet usage. The Galaxy Tab A also comes equipped with 4G LTE support in the absence of WiFi. The extra S Pen comes a couple of new software features similar Samsung’s troubled Galaxy Note 7 phablet. One thing to note is that the tablet weighs a little more than half a kilo, so carrying this 10.1-incher around can prove to be a load for some.

The Galaxy Tab A (2016) with S Pen fetches a price tag of 489,000 won (RM1,796.69) and will most probably remain as a South Korean exclusive unless Samsung decides otherwise. What do you think?
