Samsung’s Italian team have created an app that will allow people with aphasia to communicate using emojis. Aphasia is a neurological disorder that affects the part of the brain where we access language, affecting speaking, reading, and writing but does not affect cognition. The app is called Wemogee, which allows people with this disorder, to communicate with others using emojis, users can select a list of emojis and send them to the recipient which on their side, which will be converted into normal text.
There are 140 phrases that cover day-to-day activities where users can convey their mood. The emojis are the standard ones that you can find, but the app helps in making them more simplified and bigger, making it easier for those affected with aphasia to use the app. A research conducted by Samsung has concluded that more than 200,000 people in Italy are affected by this disorder and more than 2 million people in America are affected.
Most of us dislike the fact that people use emojis to communicate, rather than using conventional text but with the release of this application, it really shows that emojis could be slowly on their way to becoming the next universal language to help people with disorders communicate with their friends and love ones. The app can be downloaded through the Play Store and will be coming to iOS soon.
