MediaTek has just announced the Helio A-series processor that will be targeted at the mid-range phone market. The A-series will join the P and X-series of processors, which completes their mobile processor lineup for the different market segments.

If this processor sounds familiar, that’s because this is the processor that is used in the Redmi 6A, the Helio A22 chip. Chip comes with 4 A53 2Ghz CPUs and a GE8320 GPU. Performance wise, it might not be as powerful as the P-series of chips, as it is targeted at the affordable premium market. The Chip can support up to 13MP+8MP sensors or a single 21MP sensor and display resolutions of up to 1600 x 720. On raw power, the chip might not show its true colours, but where it shines is in the smartphone trends that it supports. It supports, Bluetooth 5.0, Cat-7 4G LTE, dual-SIM, Google’s Neural Networks API and facial recognition, features that you would mostly see in flagship devices.

The A-series is definitely targeted at the lower mid-tier smartphones but offers all the latest features you will find in current-gen phones. Expect to see more of these MediaTek chips in future budget premium phones.
