Asus has announced the Tinker Board, a Single Board Computer (SBC) in an ultra-small form factor that can offer performance while leveraging on mechanical compatibility. The board targets IoT enthusiasts, hobbyists, PC DIY enthusiasts and others who what to build and tinker their ideas into reality.
The powerful ARM-based processor, the Rockchip RK3288, offers improved performance over other SBC boards. It also features 2GB of LPDDR3 dual-channel memory and SD 3.0 that offers significantly faster read and write speeds to expandable microSD cards used for the OS, applications and file storage. The board’s graphics and GPU computing APIs are powered by the Mail-T764 GPU which allows for high-quality media playback, gaming, computer vision, gesture recognition, image stabilisation, computational photography and more.
To further enhance the media experience, the board is equipped with an HD codec that supports up to 24-bit/192KHz audio and the integrated audio jack supports audio output and microphone in without an extension module. Other ports include a 40-pin GPIO for receiving inputs from buttons, switches, sensors, LEDs and more. Gigabit LAN for the internet and network connectivity and a full-size HDMI output. There is also the connectivity basics like WiFi and Bluetooth controllers that are shielded with a metal cover to avoid interferences.
