L’Oréal and Apple recently collaborated to create a wearable that can provide users with UV data so that they can protect themselves against the harm done by the sunlight.

There are two harmful rays by sunlight; UVA and UVB. The UVA is more harmful compared to the UVB as it is able to penetrate into the skin’s thickest layer whereas the UVB will usually damage the outer layer of your skin, causing your skin to tan or get sunburned. This is why we are always urged to apply sunscreen especially when we’re going out to places with constant sunlight exposure, so that we can prevent ourselves from getting into the worst scenario; skin cancer.

Apple and L’Oréal’s created the wearable called La-Roche-Posay My Skin Track UV, which is a sensor clip that can provide its users with UV data and also monitor the environment’s atmosphere such as the humidity and pollution levels. Users will need to download the app for them to be able to receive all these information, and these data will also be in Apple’s Health app. Users will also be notified when they are exposed to high levels of UV rays so that they can either avoid staying at the location for too long or apply more sunscreen.

Now this device is battery-free as it is powered by solar energy and due to the simple and neutral the design is, the sensor clip can be clipped onto users’ clothes whether it is by the sleeve or by the collar, or even clipped at the users’ bags and watches and because it’s such a tiny device it doesn’t compromise the fashion style of its users and it is very portable and convenient. The device will be available to be purchased on apple.com and also selected Apple stores for the price of USD 59.95 and it is the first device that can measure UV exposure without the needing a battery.
