HONOR has officially begun teasing what could be one of the most ambitious smartphone launches of 2026 with the upcoming HONOR Robot Phone. Following its debut at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026 in Barcelona, HONOR CEO James Li has confirmed that the world’s first “robot phone” is now ready, hinting that official reservations will begin soon ahead of its commercial launch later this year.
Positioned as the first product born from HONOR’s Alpha Strategy, the Robot Phone aims to redefine the traditional smartphone by combining flagship mobile imaging with embodied AI technology. Rather than being just another slab smartphone, HONOR envisions the Robot Phone as an intelligent companion capable of physically interacting with its surroundings through an innovative robotic camera system.
Revolutionary Retractable Robotic Camera System

The standout feature of the HONOR Robot Phone is undoubtedly its industry-first retractable four degrees-of-freedom (4DoF) titanium alloy robotic gimbal system, which is neatly concealed inside the device when not in use. Unlike conventional smartphone camera modules, the robotic arm deploys in just 0.8 seconds at the press of a button, transforming the phone into a miniature AI-powered filming platform.
Once extended, the robotic camera supports full 360-degree tracking alongside intelligent 90-degree and 180-degree camera movements, allowing it to automatically follow subjects without requiring additional accessories. HONOR claims the stabilisation system achieves CIPA 5.5-level image stabilisation while compensating for up to 96% of walking-induced camera shake, making it suitable for handheld vlogging, action videos and cinematic content creation.
Despite its advanced capabilities, the entire robotic mechanism is powered by a miniaturised motor that is reportedly 70% smaller than conventional smartphone gimbal systems, allowing the device to retain a sleek and seamless design when the robotic arm is retracted.
Flagship Camera System Co-Developed With ARRI
Photography is another major focus of the Robot Phone. The device features a triple-camera setup led by a 200MP primary camera with an f/1.6 aperture and 23mm equivalent focal length, integrated directly into the robotic gimbal system. It is joined by a 50MP ultra-wide camera and a second 200MP periscope telephoto camera, creating a versatile imaging system for virtually every shooting scenario.
The Robot Phone also marks the first commercial product resulting from HONOR’s strategic partnership with renowned cinema camera manufacturer ARRI. The collaboration brings professional filmmaking tools traditionally reserved for Hollywood productions to smartphones, including native ARRI Log-C recording and LUT colour profiles.
Professional creators will also gain access to advanced manual controls such as focus lock, white balance lock, exposure lock and camera movement data, allowing the Robot Phone to fit seamlessly into professional production workflows. AI-powered object tracking, intelligent video editing and automated shooting assistance further enhance the filming experience by helping users capture stable footage with minimal effort.
AI-Powered Intelligence at Its Core
Powering the Robot Phone is Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 flagship processor, paired with a compact 6.3 to 6.4-inch 1.5K flat display with symmetrical bezels.
The smartphone also features HONOR’s on-device YOYO large language model, designed to deliver more natural and personalised interactions. According to HONOR, the AI assistant is capable of recognising users’ emotions, learning their usage habits and understanding surrounding environments, allowing it to proactively provide assistance based on context rather than simply responding to commands.
This combination of AI intelligence and robotic hardware represents HONOR’s vision of the next generation of smartphones, where artificial intelligence extends beyond software into physical interaction.
Launch Expected in Third Quarter of 2026

HONOR has already opened reservation channels for the Robot Phone at selected retail stores in China, with early registrants eligible for exclusive launch benefits. The company has also revealed two colour options ahead of its official unveiling.
The device recently received China’s 3C certification under the model number APH-AN00, confirming support for up to 120W wired fast charging.
While HONOR has yet to announce an official launch date, CEO James Li has confirmed that the Robot Phone will debut during the third quarter of 2026, with industry reports pointing towards an August launch. It is also expected to launch separately from the upcoming HONOR Magic9 Series, which is currently rumoured to arrive later in October.
If the Robot Phone delivers on its promises, it could become one of the most innovative smartphones of the year by combining flagship hardware, AI-powered intelligence and a truly unique robotic camera system that pushes mobile photography beyond traditional smartphone design.
