Huawei’s MWC 2018 conference was rather humble this time around as the company showed off two new products and a new chipset that allows for 5G connectivity at blazing fast transfer speeds. Sadly, there was no unveiling of the P20 phones but they did mention that they will have a separate event to introduce the phones in Paris on March 27.

Huawei MateBook X Pro

Huawei’s new MateBook is a very premium looking laptop and comes with specs and design that you would expect from an ultrabook. It features a 13.9-inch screen with 3K resolution and touch capabilities. It also comes with a FullView display and 91 percent screen-to-body ratio, offering an immersive experience when consuming media. The laptop comes equipped with an 8th Generation Intel Core i5 or i7 processor depending on the variant, 57.3Wh battery and a discrete Nvidia GeForce MX150 graphics chip.

As for audio, it comes with Dolby Atmos Sound System offering a virtual surround sound experience just from the laptop speakers. On the I/O side of things, it has two USB-C ports, one USB-A port and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Huawei has mentioned that the keyboard is spill proof and comes with backlighting but the unique feature of the keyboard is that there is a special key where the functions buttons are that will pop out when press to reveal the webcam.

The position is really odd and The Verge has mentioned in their hands on, it captures the chest and half of the face if not placed on a table or surface.

Huawei MediaPad M5

The MediaPad M5 is the successor to the MediaPad M3 but it goes to a whole new level when it comes to specs. The tablet comes with a 2.5D glass covering a 2K display which comes in an 8.4-inch or 10.8-inch variant. It features two or four stereo speakers tuned by Harman Kardon depending on the variant and it comes with a Huawei M-Pen which features 4,096 level of pressure sensitivity of a great writing and drawing experience. The unique feature of this tablet is that when placed into the keyboard dock, it will transform into a desktop mode similar to what the Mate 10 could do when hooking it up to a monitor. This gives a huge boost in functionality when it comes to drafting up a document or just browsing the Internet.

Finally, is the new Balong 5G01 chipset which Huawei claims can offer download speeds of up to 2Gbps and will be able to operate on both 4G and 5G networks and will support all 5G frequency bands. The MateBook X Pro will be available later in the year and will have a starting price of 1,499 Euros. The MediaPad M5, on the other hand, will be priced at 349 Euros and 399 Euros for the 8.4-inch and 10.8-inch models respectively.
