After being selected as to build the second 5G network in Malaysia, U Mobile is now beginning to rollout its 5G SA network to selected postpaid plans in certain areas, while it is unclear which location the telco has activated its standalone 5G towers, U Mobile customers on U Postpaid 98, U Biz 98, U Premium, and U Platinum will be eligible to access the 5G SA network on supported phones.

The 5G SA network access is being rolled out in phases to eligible postpaid customers, so don’t go hammering the customer support if you haven’t got it. Compared to existing 5G NSA networks, which depends on 4G infrastructure to deliver 5G coverage, 5G SA networks deliver lower latency and more reliable speeds, as the name already suggests, they are standalone and dedicated 5G network towers, hence you should expect better performance when connected to a 5G SA network.
At this time, most common 5G Android phones will have support for U Mobile’s 5G SA network, but the telco says that it is currently still working to enable 5G SA network for iPhones over a software update. Also, there are no plans to extend the access to U Mobile’s other postpaid and prepaid plans for now, but non-supported plans will still be able to access the telco’s existing 4G and DNB provided 5G network.
