When travelling to another country, the major issue that we face is the language barrier which can make getting around tedious. Introducing Travis, a device that is small enough to fit into your pocket and can allow you to talk to anyone that you meet during your travels. This remote control looking device can translate 80 languages in real time when it is online as well as access 20 more common languages in offline mode, making travelling to areas with poor network connection easier.

Travis comes with a touchscreen display, quad-core processor, built-in Bluetooth, WiFi capabilities and a slot for a SIM card. The developers claim that the battery life is 6 hours in online mode, 12 hours in offline mode and will last up to a week when in standby mode. There is not much details on how the AI system works but its developers mention that it was built by integrating the “best apps for each language” into the device and selects the best app for each conversation.

This is not the first device on the market that translates language in real-time as others can be seen in action such as the Ili which does not need any form of internet connection to function. Travis has currently passed its funding goal on IndieGoGo and will start shipping in July with a pre-order price of $139 and a retail price of $199 at launch.
