Looks like Spotify might be joining the lines of Pebble, Amazon, and Snapchat, as plans to create their own hardware is shown on the company’s website which mentioned they want to build a category-defining product and that it will affect the way the world experiences music and talk content. There are not much details as to what the company is building but the listing says that the device will be internet connected and come directly from Spotify.

It would seem that their plan is to develop a device to play music similar to Mighty, a media player that will stream music from Spotify, which is a crowdfunded product that is yet to be shipped. Learning from the Pebble Core, which will track your running and stream music using 3G connection but was canceled before it could be shipped. Looks like they decided that all these third-party devices does not quite cut it, and with the increasing growth in connected speaker, decided to take matters into their own hands to produce a device that can fit all these criteria which other companies have come up short.

In a separate job description, Spotify has taken in interest in voice control which was rumored to come to its app. The hardware listing even mentions that the person that fills the role will define the product requirements for hardware and software which shows that they are just getting started to tap the hardware market with their own official music device.
