If you enjoy listening to podcasts on Spotify, you’ll be glad to know that there will be a new way for you to support your favourite content creators on the platform.
Spotify will be introducing a feature that lets creators charge listeners for subscriber-only content; these episodes will be separate from the usual stuff regular subscribers get.
Spotify banks on the podcast creation tools provided by Anchor to make this happen – and since its inception in the US, there are over 100 podcasts that have adopted subscriptions.
In terms of pricing, podcasters can charge anywhere between $0.49 to $150 for any piece of content. From there, Spotify will not take any cut from the revenue for two years, and reports say the platform plan to only take a 5% cut after that.
The catch is, the feature is only available in the US for now, but will roll out to the rest of the world come 15 September.
