Samsung has unveiled a really premium and expensive clamshell phone at an event in Xiamen, China recently called the Samsung W2018 which will only retail in Asia with a price tag of up to $2000 (RM8162.20). The successor to last year’s W2017, the W2018 marks the range’s tenth anniversary and Samsung’s 25th in the Chinese market.
The phone gets its premium look from its build which is made from metal and glass but weighs in at 247g, which is considerably heavier than both the Galaxy S8 and the Note 8. It comes with a pair of 4.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen displays at FHD resolutions and features a full keypad and navigational buttons. Specs wise is no joke, it comes with a Snapdragon 835 processor, 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage expandable to 256GB via microSD card. Powering the device is a 2,300mAh battery, there is also a rear fingerprint scanner and a dedicated Bixby assistant button. You might think that the camera might not be so impressive, but this phone comes with a 12MP rear camera with a f/1.5 aperture, currently the lowest aperture on any smartphone.
However, out-of-the-box, this phone will come with Android 7.1.1 but Samsung has promised that there is an Android oreo update coming in 2018. It will also be available in two colours, Elegant Gold and Platinum.
