The much talked-about OPPO Reno has been jointly dominating the headlines for the past month or so – and for good reason too. Teasers and rumours surrounding OPPO’s new line product line has been nothing but interesting – think a chewing gum-shaped selfie camera, flagship-level specs and a unique design.
As it turns out, all that talk up until this point has been pin-point accurate as OPPO officially releases the Reno in China, confirming many of the rumours to be true.

Two models were launched at the press conference, each falling into different tiers – the first is the “Standard Edition” which is a upper-mid range device. It comes with a 6.4-inch near bezel-less AMOLED display – which is expected for a phone with a pop-up selfie camera.
At the back is dual-camera setup (48MP main + 5MP depth sensor) with the latest Sony IMX586 sensor, so the phone is expected to do well in low-light situations.

Now, the most interesting part of the phone is its pop-up selfie camera – as previous rumours had suggested, the module is indeed shaped like a stick of gum or a shark fin. It rises at an angle and at the tip of the module is a 16MP wide-angle lens.
The brain of the Reno is a Snapdragon 710 along with three memory configurations –6GB/8GB LPDDR4 RAM + 128GB internal storage or 8GB LPDDR$ RAM + 256GB internal storage. The heart of the device would be a 3,765mAh battery, which isn’t too bad for an upper-mid range device.
A 3.5mm headphone jack is present and the phone supports Type-C VOOC 3.0 fast charging. You can unlock the phone via its in-screen fingerprint sensor and the phone ships with Android 9 Pie along with OPPO’s ColorOS 6.0.
Now, the second variant is a proper flagship and is variant that was most frequently talked about. It’s referred to as the 10x Zoom version for obvious reasons and it improves on almost every aspect. To start off, it has a bigger 6.6-inch AMOLED display.
At the back is a triple-camera setup – a 48MP main, a 13MP periscope telephoto lens, and a 8MP ultra-wide lens. OPPO claims that the phone is capable of 10x lossless hybrid zoom, making it the closest rival to the Huawei P30 series of phones. It also has the same selfie camera and pop-up module.

Under the hood is a Snapdragon 855 chipset and it shares similar memory configurations as the Standard Edition. The Reno 10x Zoom gets a bigger 4,065mAh battery and supports VOOC 3.0 fast charging.
The phone is similar to the Standard elsewhere. According to GizChina, the phones are set to be priced from 2,999 Yuan (RM1,836) for the Reno Standard Edition while the Reno 10x Zoom will be priced from 3999 Yuan (RM2,448).
These devices will be available in China sometime mid-May, so you can expect it to hit local shelves in the middle of the year.
