Moto Z2 Play set to make Malaysian debut

Lenovo has just unveiled the Moto Z2 Play earlier this month while growing its family of Moto Mods at the same time. The Moto Z2 Play is the successor to last year’s Moto Z Play, claimed to be thinner, lighter and faster. The handset will be celebrating its arrival to Malaysian shores some time next month.

This news comes not too long after Lenovo decided to reconsolidate its business model for smartphones to focus on high end devices under the Moto branding. Next year will see lesser handsets from the Chinese manufacturer.

Design wise, the Moto Z2 Play retains a similar build to its predecessor, only slightly thinner. On the front is a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display at 1080p resolution. Underneath the hood lies a newer Snapdragon 626 processor, with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage or 4GB RAM and 64GB storage.

The megapixel count on the camera has been lowered on the Z2 Play but new 12MP PDAF sensor with laser autofocus should be better than the rear shooter on its predecessor, plus a 5MP selfie camera. Battery has also been reduced by more than 15 percent, down to 3,000mAh from 3,510mAh, but that does not necessarily translate to worse battery life. Besides, the Moto Z2 Play is claimed to go up to 30 hours of use on a single charge.

Given that the Malaysian press event is set for early July, we would assume that the Moto Z2 Play will go on sale in local store beginning mid July. Would you get one yourself?
