The long awaited Moto Z2 Play has finally been unveiled by Motorola. This launch comes after countless rumors and leaks that were made available across the past couple of months. The truth is finally out, and it is safe to say that the rumors for the Moto Z2 Play were pretty much spot on.

First off, the Moto Z2 Play is a tad slimmer than its predecessor the Moto Z Play. It is lighter as well, despite sporting a similar design. On the front is a 5.5-inch display in Full HD resolution, the same as compared to the Moto Z Play. Underneath the hood is a newer and slightly more powerful mid range processor – the Snapdragon 626. It comes in 3GB of RAM with 32GB of storage and 4GB of RAM with 64GB of storage respectively. Storage can be further expanded up to a huge 2TB as claimed by Motorola.

The Moto Z2 Play sports a 12MP rear camera with PDAF and Laser Autofocus technology, instead of the previous 16MP camera on the Z Play. Aperture is also at an improved f/1.7. The selfie camera on the front is of 5MP. A slimmer and lighter body comes with a smaller battery as well, as is the case with the Moto Z2 Play. Its battery has been downsized from 3,510mAh to 3,000mAh. Regardless, Motorola still claims up to 30 hours of battery life on a full charge. The Moto Z Play was known for its excellent battery life, so let’s hope that the Moto Z2 Play lives up to that legacy.

Along with the Moto Z2 Play, Motorola has also added a bunch of new Moto Mods to its collection – a newer JBL SoundBoost 2 for enhanced audio, Moto Style Shell Mod with wireless charging support, the Moto TurboPower Pack for an extra day of battery life, and the Moto GamePad which turns the phone into a gaming device plus extra battery.

The Moto Z2 Play will be available exclusively on US major carrier Verizon in July and will go on sale on Motorola’s online store for a price tag of $499 (RM2,140.04). What are your thoughts on the new Moto Z2 Play and Motorola’s new range of Moto Mods?
