Indian OEM’s have been thriving successfully in its home country, where Micromax and its sub-brand Yu are two of the well known smartphone manufacturers whenever you think of India. Yu has unveiled another smartphone to its Yu lineup, and as far as names go, the Yu Yunicorn takes it all.

Obviously named with the mythical horse pun intended, the Yu Yunicorn lives up to its legendary title with pretty decent specs. For starters, a 5.5-inch display at Full HD resolution, protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The horsepower (again, pun intended) of the Yunicorn consists of a MediaTek Helio P10 octa core processor alongside 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage which can be expanded via the handset’s dual SIM/hybrid micro SD slot.

On the camera side of things, the Yunicorn sports a pretty standard setup of a 13MP primary camera with dual-LED flash, coupled with a 5MP selfie shooter. The handset packs a larger than usual 4,000mAh battery which promises up to 20 hours of talk time and supports fast charging. A fingerprint sensor is embedded in the home button on the front of the metal-framed device. The Yunicorn will run Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box, which is rather disappointing. However, Yu has promised that it will have Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow rolling out to the phone within a month, as soon as it is released.

The Yu Yunicorn will be exclusive to the Indian market and will be released on the 7th of June with a special first month price of Rs. 12,999 (RM795.74) exclusively on Flipkart before its normal price of Rs. 14,999 (RM918.17). The Yunicorn will be offered in three different color options – Rush Silver, Graphite and Rush Gold. Let us know your thoughts at the comments section below.
