News has surfaced from The Korea Herald that LG is planning to move from LCD screens to OLED screens for its next premium smartphone the V30 and eventually the G7 which is the successor to this year’s flagship phone the G6. The OLED display offers a more vivid colours and deeper black compared to LCD screens that Apple, HTC and LG’s existing models are using. Apple is also expected to make the switch over to OLED for its iPhone 8 model while still sticking to LCD for its 7S and 7S Plus.
LG’s V line of phones are marketed as professional consumer phones and as such, offers a wide range of tools when it comes to media creation giving users more depth on the camera settings, video quality and more. With the new display, it will greatly help users when it comes to these task and with the change of screen, it works well with virtual reality and Google’s Daydream platform which has not have much update since its launch with the Pixel phones.
LG will be using its sister company, LG Display, for the OLED screens keeping the development within the company for a more fine tune display quality and some of the screen produced will be supplied to other manufacturers that want to opt out of Samsung’s who produces the most amount of OLED screens. The V30 is set to release in September with more news on the pricing coming soon.
