Huawei nova 8 launched: Packs a Kirin 820E, curved 90Hz display, and 64MP quad-camera

The Huawei nova 8 is now official and it packs a host of premium features, while being priced at just RM1,899. 

Huawei nova 8 90hzThe phone sports a 6.57-inch FHD+ OLED display which also supports a 90Hz refresh rate. The panel is curved on the sides and there’s a punch hole camera module at the top of the screen too. Plus, tt supports 10bit colour output, a DCI-P3 colour gamut, and offers a 329ppi pixel density.  

Huawei nova 8 camerasFor imaging, the phone comes with a 64MP main lens, an 8MP ultrawide shooter, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 2MP macro lens. For selfies, you get a 32MP shooter. The lenses are placed in an oblong-shaped module, and the circular lenses it houses were apparently inspired by the rings of Saturn, says Huawei. 

Huawei Kirin 820eUnder the hood, the nova 8 packs a Kirin 820E chipset which is a 6-core processor built on a 7nm process. It is worth noting that this is a weaker chipset compared to the Kirin 985 that was used in original nova 8 launched in its native China. 

Huawei nova 8 chargingPowering all this is a 3,800mAh battery, and there’s also support for 66W of Huawei Super Charge fast charging – the brand claims that this is able to power the nova 8 up to 60 percent from zero in just 15 minutes.
