Google Assistant, Google’s own take on the digital assistant, has not been widely available considering that the feature can only be found on the Google Home speaker and the Pixel smartphones thus far. That being said, Google has officially announced that the feature will be coming to another platform in the near future: Android TVs.

According to Google, Google Assistant will be coming as part of an update to any Android TV device that is capable of running Android 6.0 Marshmallow or 7.0 Nougat. This means that standard smart TVs and media boxes like Xiaomi’s Mi Box and Nvidia’s new Shield will be able to utilise Google Assistant when the update goes live. With Google Assistant available for Android TV, you can now leverage the assistant from the comforts of your living room sofa.

Google has yet to outline a timeline for when Google Assistant will be made available for Android TV, so we’ll hazard a guess that it’ll still be a while to go before we see it. Another thing we don’t know is if Google Assistant will made available globally or if it would be a region-specific feature, so try not to get your hopes up just yet.
