Those who are currently developing apps for that Apple Watch will soon have to fulfill another requirement as starting from June, all Apple Watch apps must be able to run natively.
On Apple’s developer website, the company has announced that all future watchOS apps submitted to the App Store must be native apps built with the watchOS2 SDK or later. This means that all future Apple Watch apps must be able to access the internet via Wi-Fi, rather than just through a local iPhone.
Apple’s logic behind mandating that Apple Watch apps be able to run natively is so that those apps would be able to run faster. Also, this would allow the Apple Watch to run more efficiently, extending the watch’s battery life.
As for current apps, it seems that Apple isn’t enforcing developers to update their apps so that it would be able to run natively on the Apple Watch. Nevertheless, this requirement is a step in the right direction.
