Samsung has expanded its Sleep Apnea feature to Galaxy Ring following regulatory clearance in the United States and approval in South Korea. The update turns the ring into a screening device for signs of moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnoea, but it is not a diagnosis and Malaysian availability has not been announced.

Two nights of data, not continuous diagnosis
The feature runs through Samsung Health Monitor and needs two valid nights of data within a 10-day window. Samsung’s US guidance specifies at least five hours of recorded sleep for each of those two nights. An updated algorithm analyses breathing disruptions and reports their detected level rather than simply presenting a yes-or-no risk flag.
Samsung says Galaxy Ring’s light design may make overnight monitoring easier for people who dislike wearing a watch to bed. That is a reasonable usability argument, but the accuracy and comfort of the experience will still vary by fit, sleep pattern and individual physiology.

Important medical limits
This is an on-demand, over-the-counter screening tool for adults aged 18 and above. It is intended to look for signs associated with moderate to severe sleep apnoea, not to catch every sleep disorder or replace a laboratory sleep study. Samsung specifically says people who have already been diagnosed with sleep apnoea should not use the feature as a substitute for their existing care.
A negative result does not prove that sleep apnoea is absent. Anyone experiencing persistent loud snoring, gasping during sleep, morning headaches or excessive daytime tiredness should still speak to a qualified clinician. Users should also never change medication or treatment based only on a wearable result.

Malaysia still has to wait
The upgraded feature is currently tied to regulatory approval and software availability in supported markets. Samsung has not confirmed a Malaysian release, so buying a Galaxy Ring locally does not guarantee access to sleep apnoea screening.
This distinction matters because health features are often enabled country by country, even when the underlying sensors are already present. Malaysian owners should wait for an official Samsung Health Monitor announcement rather than attempting to sideload a region-specific build.
