HONOR is offering an early look at the video capabilities of its upcoming Magic9 Pro Max through The Sea Between Us, a new Mid-Autumn epilogue to the Chinese box-office hit Dear You. According to the company, the entire short film was shot on the yet-to-be-launched flagship smartphone.
A new chapter for Dear You
The Sea Between Us brings back Wang Yantong as Zheng Musheng and continues the original film’s theme of separation, family and communication across generations. Set during Mid-Autumn, the epilogue contrasts the long wait associated with letters in the past with the immediacy of phone calls and messages today.
HONOR says Dear You, also known as Love Letters to Grandma, has earned close to US$300 million at the global box office. The original story follows a young man tracing his family’s history through the tradition of qiaopi letters, and the new epilogue extends that emotional thread for audiences spending the festival away from home.
ARRI colour science comes to the Magic9 Pro Max
The production also highlights HONOR’s imaging partnership with ARRI, the cinema-camera specialist whose equipment and colour workflows are widely used in professional filmmaking. HONOR says ARRI’s input helped shape the phone’s cinematic colour reproduction, with an emphasis on natural skin tones, layered highlights and shadows, and the warm lighting used throughout the short film.
The two official stills supplied with the release show challenging scenes with window light, deep indoor shadows and warm low-light illumination. However, HONOR has not disclosed the phone’s camera sensors, recording resolutions, stabilisation modes or other technical details in this announcement, so the images should be treated as a first showcase rather than a complete camera evaluation.
Full launch details are still under wraps
The HONOR Magic9 Pro Max has not yet received Malaysian pricing or availability details. The company also did not announce when the full smartphone specification sheet will be released locally. The Sea Between Us will be available through HONOR Malaysia’s official Facebook page, while further information about the device is expected closer to its formal launch.
