Messenger 4 is an updated and simplified version of Facebook’s Messenger and will roll out worldwide over the next few weeks.

Now the highlight of this new update is the fewer amount of tabs in your Messenger. The Messenger 4 will only have three tabs at its bottom; the Chats tab, the People tab and the Discover tab. The Chats tab will be where all the conversations are, replacing the current Message tab. Your group conversations and one-to-one conversations will no longer be separated into different tabs and the position of the camera (which is currently at the centre bottom of the interface) will be relocated to be at the top right of the interface. On the People tab, you’ll now be able to see Stories from others and find out who is active, whereas on the Discover tab, it’ll feature games, business deals and news. Overall, it’ll be less messy and easier for users to comprehend.

Aside from that, you can also customise your conversations with chat customisations called color gradients. Facebook now allows users to change the colour of their chat bubbles with more than one colour so that the chat bubbles have the colour gradient effect. Facebook also plan to introduce more features later on, and one of it is known as Dark Mode, an interface that is dark-themed which reduces glare from users’ phones. This is a mode that many are adapting to, like Apple’s new Mojave update and also WhatsApp’s rumoured update.

The Messenger 4 will definitely be a simpler version that many will look forward to, though we’ll need to wait for awhile for the update to reach us.
