Smartphone brands are regularly implementing trade-in programs to make their phones more affordable to purchase. This is partly due to the fact that smartphone prices have been increasing, but it is also a tactic by companies to garner more fans in the consumer space. Xiaomi’s handsets are known to be very affordable, but it has also launched its own trade in program.

Xiaomi has unveiled the Mi Exchange Program in India, in hopes to make its smartphones more affordable for its fans and potential customers in one of its largest markets in the world. The exchange program is available at all Mi Home outlets in the country, whereby those who are interested will only need to bring their old smartphones for the trade in. The value will then be determined by Xiaomi and Cashify, whom the company collaborated with for this program.

One down side is that buyers have to pay the full amount for the new smartphone they purchase. The folks from Cashify will then pick the old phone up from the customer’s home and pays the difference to the customer, which actually defeats the purpose of making phones more affordable.

While trade in programs might sound attractive, though they have a ton of terms and conditions to adhere to. Do you keep your phones or sell them off?
