YouTube has been hard at work when it comes to managing the content on its site and filtering out those that go against their Community Guidelines, but the company is still continuously trying to better the policies. Its newest update to the harassment policy further prevents creators from being attacked with a few different approaches.
In the latest update, YouTube will remove and prohibit not only explicit threats but also implied or veiled threats that may suggest violence towards an individual. Insulting words or phrases will also be banned to prevent others from making mean comments based on an individual’s “race, gender expression or sexual orientation”.
Moving forward, YouTube is also enhancing its policies for the YouTube Partner Program so that creators who commit harassment without necessarily crossing the policy line will be suspended from the program — losing their rights to make money on YouTube. If the YouTube creator continues to harass others, the company will also take action by removing their video content from their channels, issuing strikes or even terminating their channels.
Last but not least, YouTube will also be keeping an eye on the comment section where most harassment encounters occur. The company has already taken several measures by removing inappropriate comments and adding tools for creators to review comments that might be potentially inappropriate. Just last week, YouTube has begun to turn on the comment review feature for some of the largest YouTube channels and said that most channels will have access to this feature by the end of the year. However, creators can still opt-out of the comment review feature.
