Both Samsung and Apple are still the top smartphone makers in the world. Although Huawei overtook Apple for a while, the latter company has been presumed to clinch the second spot again with the launch of its new iPhones. If you only count the premium smartphones, the above will likely be the result yet again, but things are different in India.

The smartphone market in India, the second most populated country works differently. According to statistics by IDC, the top smartphone maker in the premium segment is neither Apple nor Samsung, but OnePlus. Statistics show that OnePlus takes a whopping 57 percent share of India’s online smartphone sales, with Apple coming in at second at 38 percent.

What about Samsung? It takes third place, with a mere 4 percent market share in online smartphone sales. Do note that this is data for the premium segment in which smartphones are priced $400 and above, and also the data does not factor in offline sales.

Regardless, this is quite an achievement for a company like OnePlus, whose sales only come from two devices, last year’s OnePlus 3T and this year’s OnePlus 5 flagship, while both Apple and Samsung definitely have more than two premium smartphones each made available online. What do you think?
