Xiaomi has officially unveiled the Xiaomi 12S series “co-engineered with Leica”, which is a long but official name for the flagship camera phone series, it comprise the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, Xiaomi 12S Pro and Xiaomi 12S, all phones are powered by the improved Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC and feature different imaging systems co-developed by Xiaomi and Leica, containing Leica Summicron lenses and supporting Leica imaging profiles.
As the leading model of the series, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra is quite the looker with a leather-like rear and is certified IP68 water and dust resistant, it sports a large 50.3MP 1-inch type Sony IMX989 8P aspherical primary lens that uses a Quad-Bayer pixel array with individual pixel sizes reaching 1.6μm, after pixel binning it reaches 3.6μm that reduces noise levels, extends dynamic range while increasing light sensitivity to offer superior low light performance, it also enables the phone to capture Dolby Vision HDR videos and comes with an advanced HyperOIS stabilization technology.
Supporting the primary camera is a 48MP Sony IMX586 ultrawide lens and a 48MP Sony IMX586 periscope lens that reaches as far as 120mm, while the front camera is a 32MP RGBW sensor.
The Xiaomi 12S Ultra comes with a 6.73-inch LTPO AMOLED display that can reach a peak brightness of 1500 nits and has an adaptive refresh rate of 1-120Hz, it has symmetrical stereo speakers that has been tuned by Harman Kardon and supports Dolby Atmos.
For the first time on a Xiaomi phone, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra is equipped with dedicated Xiaomi Surge chips that manages the battery and charging of the device, the Surge P1 fast charging chip supports up to a 16A current output with 96.8% conversion efficiency, while the Surge G1 battery management chipset optimizes the battery discharge for a longer lifespan, the phone is powered by a 4860mAh single cell battery that will support 67W fast charging, 50W wireless fast charging and 10W reverse wireless charging.
For storage options, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra will come in variants of 8GB+256GB, 12GB+256GB and 12GB+512GB.
As for the Xiaomi 12S Pro and 12S, they are essentially a refresh of the outgoing 12 Series while featuring Leica imaging features, they retain the same screen size at 6.73-inches and 6.28-inches respectively, the 12S Pro comes with faster 120W fast charging and the 12S supports 67W fast charging.
In addition, Xiaomi has also announced the Xiaomi 12 Pro Dimensity Edition, Xiaomi Book Pro 16, Xiaomi Book Pro 14, Xiaomi Smart Band 7 Pro and Xiaomi Home WiFi.
All of these devices are currently available in China for now, no local pricing and avaiability has been announced by Xiaomi Malaysia, however the Xiaomi 12S Series will most certainly make its way to our market in time to come.
